Cobe Nel is a Cape Town-based photographer and visual communication practitioner.
His work moves between portraiture, editorial, documentary, product and commercial image-making, often using the ordinary, the staged and the accidental to create images with more than one reading.
Working with people, objects, clothing, place and gesture, his practice is concerned with how images communicate beyond their immediate function — how they move between the literal subject and the cultural meanings that gather around it. A portrait, object or brief can exceed its category, carrying a more ambiguous life of its own.
